Blackberries

Carol here,

Just thought I might write on the topic of Blackberries in case you might be interested.

I do use a Blackberry smartphone quite regularly. You may ask why?  I have many reasons:

  • I have a degree from the University of Waterloo where I studied technology and where Blackberry head office is, and where the Company that makes Blackberry products originated.  I actually think alot of their products were really great inventions and are still useful.

  • I have great looking RIM's on my car wheels.

  • I think Blackberry smoothies taste better than any other fruit smoothies I have ever tasted.

  • Blackberries have more antioxidants and ruffage than most other fruits.

  • I like the colour and size of  Blackberries.

  • Blackberries aren't oranges or apples, of which I am not too interested in eating.

Sorry if I burst anyones balloon.

Cyber Attacks - Bullying?

Carol here,

I thought I might write on the topic of 'Cyber Attacks', in case you might be interested.

What is considered a 'Cyber Attack' you may ask?

We are often more concerned about 'Cyber Bullying' a direct form of harmful online bullying with a personal and damaging agenda.  Cyber Attacks arrive in a different form and are more like a planned Technical Attack.  They are an attack on someones property.  The attacker uses a roundabout method of bullying in the form of using technology as a method of harming someone or something.  Kind of like when someone key scratches your car and takes off.

When people are online they can receive a Cyber Attack in many ways, in fact, a virus found on your computer is usually a form of Cyber Attack because it is meant to harm your property and is more often created and sent intentionally by a person or organization.  Have you ever had a virus on your computer?  Did you find out how you got it, or who sent it to you?  People are sending computer viruses intentionally to personal and business computers and you could be a victim of a Cyber Attack.

Since I have my own internet server space setup for customers, I protect against Cyber Attacks on that server space.  I have tracked Cyber attacks attempted from China, Russia, Tunisia, Mid-West USA...etc...people have tried to insert scripts and code onto my server, update websites on my server, and infiltrate in other different ways.  There are ways to hide the location that the attack came from, however, I am usually able to trace an attack to its origin in most cases because of server access records.  Firewalls can give you alot of information on an attack, and most firewall software keeps records of all the viruses and attackers that have been discovered on the internet.

This is a reality that I have protected my server against so that everything on there can remain functional.  My customers have their websites up 100% of the time now unless there is server maintenance or upgrades being done.  I did have to block attacks for my customers.

The fact of the matter is that everyone is now having to protect themselves with internet security, firewalls and anti-virus software that need to be updated regularly.

That is a reality of the effect Cyber Attacks have had, and people must now pay for protection.

Adobe FLASH verses Microsoft & Apple

Carol here,

I just thought I might share my thoughts on the topic of the software application 'Adobe FLASH' verses Microsoft and Apple, in case you are interested.

Why do I like Adobe FLASH you may ask?

It is correct that developing using Adobe FLASH is expensive (developers (and me) buy and learn the software) and the software is very difficult to learn.  I bought and read "The Flash Bible".

Both Microsoft and Apple don't particularly like FLASH and never expressed any adequate support or interest in including FLASH in their future plans.  However, FLASH came about as the best option to take when Microsoft and Apple would not work close enough together so that people (including some of my customers) could develop advanced internet websites for their businesses that were compatible on both Microsoft and Apple computers.

Websites were constantly showing up differently on Apple than on Microsoft computers, and there was often no common ground between the two platforms other than when developed using FLASH software.

I suspect that Microsoft and Apple were both trying to dominate and compete with each other for the market share by showing their own creative individuality at the detriment of everyone else in the software and hardware market.

Then Apple, lead by Steve Jobs, decided to criticize Adobe FLASH publicly in front of the world.  I believe this was done out of a will to discourage FLASH everywhere.  Apple had too much arrogance to include a valid product that existed for a reason and had been validated by many internet developers.  There was also a lack of interest in tolerating people that had the brains to develop and learn FLASH, and a lack of desire of Apple and Microsoft to hire employees that had the independent brains and know how to independently develop with FLASH along with an array of other types of complex developments.

FLASH is actually a very good product that allows the development of beautiful graphics, text, photo images, and moving images on both Apple and Microsoft computers.

Let's see what Blogger does with a FLASH development.  Can you see this moving image?

World Wide Web - Browsers

Carol here,

I wanted to share my thoughts about web browsers, in case you are interested.

I started using Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer some time ago.  Overall I am happy with Google Chrome but would like to let you know how I use it and what problems I have found:

- I remove all extensions all the time...whenever someone wants to add an extention I remove it....makes the browser too sluggish.

- There seems to be some incompatibilities with some websites especially when you have to log in and log out using an ID and Password....I would keep another version of another web browser on your computer for when this happens.

- Google Chrome seems to be slower to startup than other browsers, and I have not found the reason for this or been able to correct this except by removing the browsing history and extensions.

- Google Chrome actually works better on older operating systems like Windows XP, Internet Explorer no longer functions with Windows XP and I think that is another ploy by Microsoft to get you to spend your money on buying a newer computer.  They probably feel justified getting you to buy a new computer because of all the money being spent on Apple products.  I am one to minimize spending money on either of them because there are other options and workarounds.
